The illustration I
have chose is form the book called “NO, David”, the picture is from the first
page of the book. The type of media they have used I believe is pencil crayons.
The illustrations in the story expand on the text a lot even though there is
not much text in the story. The illustration explains what is happening in the
story. For example, in the story whatever David is doing his mommy always say’s
“NO, David”. In the picture I chose David has climbed on the chair and is
reaching for the cookie jar, and the text say’s “NO, David”. When children look
at the picture they will see what David is doing is not safe. From my own
experience when I read this book to the toddlers they always look at the
pictures of what David is doing and then say “NO, David”. The illustration
creates a setting in the story because this particular story takes place in
David’s house but different rooms. If you look at the illustration I chose it
looks like a kitchen because it has a cupboard shelf with jars and tea set. The
kitchen is usually the place where children will find cookies and climb or do
anything to get them. In the other pictures there is a page where he’s in the
washroom and the illustration shows a bathtub and he’s in it. The illustration creates
the mood of excitement and mysterious because the children are wondering what David
will do next? Some children might get excited reading this book because they
love saying NO, David. I believe there is also a mood of sadness because whatever
David does his mom is always telling him NO, David. Throughout the story the
author uses the same characters so the readers understand the main character in
the story. I love this story because there is less text for the children to
read and the illustration in the story are in detailed so the children know
what is happening. The illustrations in this story are very helpful for the
children as well as the adults to understand what is happening in the story.
Illustration in books are very useful because even if the reader is not
understanding the text they can look at the pictures and see what is happening.
