Book store Visit:
On a sunny Saturday afternoon a
girl named Shazia went with her little sister and friend Hajra to a bookstore
called Mabel’s Fables. Their ride to the bookstore took them about 45 minutes
on the TTC bus. They got off at Mount Pleasant road from the bus and where
looking for the bookstore; after 10 minutes passed they found the bookstore at
the corner of the street. When they were outside of the bookstore they
saw stuff on tables which were on clearance. When they entered the bookstore
Shazia and Hajra looked a little confused on where to look around; they took a
look around the first floor to get an idea of how things are set- up and what
they have. Shazia went to the front cashier and talked to an employee
working there, the employee asked them if they needed any help. Shazia told the lady
about her visit to the bookstore and the purpose of being there. The lady said “This
is a great bookstore to visit”. The lady explained to them what they had in the
bookstore and also the layout of the store. Then they decided to go upstairs where
they had books for young adults. As they
were going upstairs Hajra saw a cat downstairs (when she was coming upstairs)
and got really scared. On the upper level of the book store at the back there
was a place created for storytelling. In that area there were couches and two
huge bears at the corner for children to sit and read. Shazia sat down there to
read to her little sister; her sister had picked a book and came to sit down on
the bears with her. There were many interesting books for young children and
books in different languages such as French and many more for children. When
they were upstairs in the reading area they also saw writings on the wall; the
writings (on the wall) were from when authors came to visit the book store. The
authors wrote a message on the wall in the reading area and then signed it, so
the wall was covered with all the authors’ messages. Shazia and Hajra had
looked around to see different kinds of books and how they were arranged for
the children and parents to see. The books were displayed in a way where the
children and parents could see the front cover of the books. As they were
walking Shazia said “Look, there is a closet here”. It was a small room that
looked like a closet and they had placed books there; you were able to go in
and a small child could even sit there. On their way downstairs Shazia was
really scared to go down because she thought the cat would be standing in front
of the staircase. Shazia decided to let her little sister go down first just in
case there was a cat standing there. As her little sister
was going down the stairs Shazia and Hajra followed her behind, Shazia realized
that there wasn’t a cat there and it was inside so she started to feel better.
When they went downstairs they had a better look at the first floor and looked
around more and saw the books and the layout. Shazia noticed something which
was really interesting when she was looking at the children’s section; she saw lamps
that had numbers on them on top of each section; this indicated the books for
children in that age group. Shazia was really surprised with the way they had
done the lamps with the numbers on them because; this way the books were
organized and displayed easy for the children and parents to find the books.
The numbers on the lamps started from 0 to 6 years of age. Shazia also noticed
that they had props that went with some of the books; some of the props were
stuffed toys and some of them were huge stuffed toys. She also saw that they
sold different puppets on a separate shelf. There was a pink and white striped bench
in the middle of the children’s section so parents and children could sit on
the bench and read books or even sit and take a look at some of the books they
would like to buy. Shazia’s sister went and picked up a book to read, the book was
called “Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see”?
She asked her sister Shazia if she could read the book to her and Shazia
said “Yes of course I can read it to you”. So both of them sat down on the pink bench and
read the book together. Shazia was
amazed of how many books they sold there plus they had other things as well
such as, toys for children, clothing; they even had toys and other things that
would be related to a book. At the end Shazia said “This bookstore looks like a
house,” it was because the way they had decorated, it felt welcoming and had
nice colours on the walls, the layout and style of the bookstore looked like a
house to Shazia. Shazia had an great experience visiting the bookstore, she was
amazed the way they had choose nice colors for the walls and how they had
things mostly for children’s. Most book
store don’t have many children’s books but this bookstore was great for
children to visit with their parents and they had books organized which parents
and children could find easily when they are looking for them. Last but not least Shazia, her sister and
friend loved the book store and they said “We would love to visit this
bookstore again”. Would you like to know who Mabel was? It was the cat that scared us all.
